Lined wool gloves? Or mittens?

I want to knit up some mittens or gloves for my daughter. I like wool for their warmth and they are good for in the snow. But my daughter complains about wool itching her these days. Can I line them somehow? I'm not really sewer. Maybe I should knit a pair in cotton and a bigger pair in wool!

I would buy a pair of those cheap stretchy gloves, (They're like, 3 pairs for $1 sometimes.) and use them for a liner in a pair of wool over-mittens.

I wouldn't use cotton for a liner. Cotton is heavy and wet when cold. It will soak up any water that gets through the wool AND it will soak up any sweat from your DC's hands.

Silk glove liners would be really nice, too.

I'm thinking maybe that super soft merino wool. Does that repel water as well?

My 5 yo would love silk. maybe a thin silk yarn.....

I never thought of her as having sensory issues, but lately she refuses to wear socks if they have seams. Next project: seamless socks!

Are you felting them?  For some reason felted wool always seems less itchy to me.

Merino is usually very soft.  It will tend to pill more, and felt more than a coarser fiber.  I knit my dd some felted mittens out of merino, and they were pretty nice.  You knit the mitten shape, then felt them, then pick up and stitch a rib cuff.

When I said silk liners, I meant ready-made ones.  They're a little pricey, and maybe not easy to find in a child's size.  But silk underwear is warm and extremely comfortable.  She could wear them under just about any gloves or mitts, and you could use any sort of wool you like on the mitts/gloves.

How about thrumming with angora or something else really soft? This project for thrummed mittens is high on my 'next projects' list.

Maybe felting... but I had never heard of thrumming. I love this idea...

Thrummed mittens feel downright decadent   love.gif  cold.gif  love.gif

They do take forever to dry though!
