My Kefir is tasting SOOO fermented - burning my throat like acid

Lately my kefir is taking on a very strong flavor.  it has an unpleasant flavor like it's fermenting too much or something.  It burns my throat and has a bad aftertaste.  Has anyone experienced this.  I'm wondering if I should let it sit for 12 hours instead of 24...   and do kefir grains get this way over time (I've only had mine 2 years)

Kefir grains multiply over time.  Maybe it's time to give away or eat some of the extra grains.  Many people draw a fill line on their kefir jar for the kefir grains before adding milk at a level they know works.  Then, they keep their kefir grain population under control by removing anything above the line.
