transverse baby *in labor*? what happened?

I'm wondering how this scenariou turned out for other members of MDC. Not 2nd guessing what happened to me, just curious.

With my 6th baby, I was in active labor. I was considering having my water broken, found to be @ 5cm, but only a hand was there.

Docs did an u/s, baby is transverse with a cord as the "presenting part" (not a prolapse, but would have if my water broke). I ended up with a c-section.

I've read a couple of birth stories where women had external versions (I was told this was not an option for me due to how far along I was labor wise, and where the cord was... baby was 9#10, so I have doubts on the success of a version with that anyway). I'm just wondering what's most common when the odd scenario of having a transverse baby in active labor happens.

From everything I have read (including midwifery books) c-section is what is used in most scenarios.

I'm pretty much convinced that my son flipped transverse during labor (in response to me being hauled out of the labor tub against my will during transition, but that's a story for another day).  Water was broken, I was dilated to 10 and pushed for 3 hours, but no descent.  I was prepped for forceps delivery in the OR with a spinal.  OB took one look and saw the cord and prepped for a section instead.

Wow, that's quite a story, sounds traumatic.

I was trying to do my relaxation/Hypnobabies meditations, and doing positions to encourage an anterior position... not sure if so much active 'natural' attempts at trying to influence his position made him say 'forget this' and go sideways. He was head down just hours before.

I can't believe your OB was going to attempt forceps and was unaware there was no head to even apply them to. How scary.

Yeah, it was a bit scary for a few minutes there. This was a different doctor than the one that had been around during the first part of my labor, and had checked me before when DS was head-down, actually.  Around here, you get a GP unless you're high risk.  When the baby wasn't descending, they called in an OB, who was the one with the forceps.  He wasn't actually in there with forceps and then realized baby was transverse, but prepped for forceps and then checked me and realized there was a cord and no head.
