Yup Im just curious and they were on sale... Anyone use flats with a newborn? I just bought 6 and figured if I did not like them they could be used as burp rags, wipes, etc...Â
I didn't with a nb, but I use flats "trifolded" in either pockets or or laid in covers. So if you don't get the hang of using then the "real" way, keep that in mind. They are better than mf because they get super clean and don't hold stink!
I love flats! They are simple yet versatile and wash super clean easily. I use them exclusively for a toddler and newborn excepting for nightime I add in hemp inserts and fleece liners. With my newborn I started at 2 weeks (she's now 7 weeks), probably could have used them sooner but I was kind of clueless since this was my first time cd'ing a newborn. I just fold them into a rectangle that lays nicely into a thirsties cover (used bummis also but preferred thirsties) and secure the tabs. It's very quick as I have them ready to go on the changing table. I do fold them in a way so that the front is more padded. Usually about once a day my babe has a poop that goes all over the cover but it never leaks out with thirsties. I wash everyday when I can but have enough flats (about 30) and covers (5 or so each size) to last 2 days & nights for both of them. With my toddler I use two flats (the extra is folded and set in the pee zone) at a time and pin as I have motherease air flow covers in that size. If you have any more questions I'd be happy to try and answer them.
I loved flats when my son was a little bigger than newborn, maybe 2-4 months old? He was just outgrowing the newborn prefolds but too little for the infant prefolds. Flats let me get a really good fit until he grew a little more. They wash and dry so quickly and easily and can be so cheap (I used flour sack towels from Target) that they expanded our diaper stash beautifully.
I loved flats from newborn age (I actually use the tiny Gerber ones)! And I still love (and prefer) them at 8 months. I now use the GMD unbleached flats.
I've wondered before if gerber flats would be good for newborns. I thought they might be! I adore them for burp cloths and cleaning up general baby related messes.
I was just thinking really bad wrinkles would make them hard to fold right or something....although some people in my family could imagine me ironing all those things, lol....but really I'd rather not!
Thanks folks! I like that they are natural, easy to get clean and dry. Also natural fibers just make me feel better. The polyester micro-fiber is just icky to touch. I will try them out when the little bean gets here.Â
