cant use back button?

Thread Starter

I have noticed that when I push the back button nothing happens.  Is this a part of the new MDC or is is something to do with my computer/browser.

Hi, it sounds like it might be a browser issue.

Can you let us know what browser (and version) are you currently running?

I'm glad to see a post about this as I have been having the same issue.  I use aol, and always have since I joined MDC, but I've only had the back button issue in the past week or so.

I'm running Windows Internet Explorer and am having the same problem.  When I hit the back button, I often need to try several times before MDC realizes it.  This is a new computer for me; I think before I was running Firefox and it wasn't a problem.  Thanks!

Okay, if anyone who is having a problem with their back button can post to let us know specifically:

  • Which browser you are using along with version and operating system (example: Firefox 4.0/Windows 7)
  • Any plug-ins you might be running
  • When did you notice this? (during the past week or since the software switch)

This information can help the team narrow down the problem to help fix it. I'm really sorry for any inconvenience, and thanks so much for your help!

I'm running IE8. 256 bit cipher. I have no idea about plugs ins...sorry!

This issue started for me yesterday or the day before definitely more recent than the switchover and maybe even as soon as the New Year.

While at MDC If I click on my back button to display the going back choices the first one is always "HTTP 400 Bad Request" and the next 1-3 pages (I don't know why this number varies) are http://googelads.g.doubleclick.net/page. The remaining pages are previously visited threads and forums. If I forget to scroll through the list and just hit the back button I get stuck in a loop where the top page remains the HTTP 400 error and more and more of the googleads pages are listed.

On the upside the annoying popup ads are gone...

Thanks,
Jenne

Yes, this is the issue.  It's not MDC not "realizing" it, it's that when you hit back you're taken to the HTTP 400 Bad Request (though your screen doesn't change at all) a few times, and THEN you're taken to the page you were previously at.  It takes a few times of hitting the back button, basically.

Well it is working on my desktop, I was having problems with it on the laptop yesterday.  I have Internet Explorer but have no clue what version.

Hey Mama! thanks for getting back with me. To find out what version of IE you are running---see if this helps (these instructions are for IE 7 and 8):

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Internet Explorer.

  2. Press ALT+H, and then click About Internet Explorer.

Thanks so much for your help.

georgia- Sorry, I still don't have any plug in information for you...is there somewhere else I would find that?

How's this for S.T.R.A.N.G.E. I'm using my desktop right now which runs the same IE 8.0.7600 as my laptop but I'm not having the problem. But I still have the problem on the laptop. They are both update version 0.

Anyway, just wanted to further complicate the problem I guess! Sorry!

Okay, about 10 seconds ago on the desktop computer I had the issue. But the thing is I've been on here for like an hour bag.gif and no issues and just now getting back to this page the error and googlead thing is gone and the back button worked just skippy. How's that for unstable??? orngbiggrin.gif

Thanks!

Jenne ~ Forgive me if you've answered this already, but what version of Windows do you have on your different computers that are running IE8? Windows 7, Vista, XP... ? I ask because Internet Explorer often 'plays' differently in the various versions of Windows.

I have Vista on both machines...

Thanks!

I'm on Internet Explorer 8 and its happening for me too. If I click back twice real quick it will sometimes work, but for the most part I need to go to the forum nav or click on a link.

Desktop is IE 7  and runs on Windows XP. Laptop is IE 8 and has Windows 7.

I'm having the same problem too.  I have Windows XP.  It's only been happening for the past day or so.

Also, if I keep hitting the back button a few times I'm getting the" http 400 bad request" superimposed on the MDC forums page.

I've been having the same issue.  Windows 7 with IE8 on the laptop and Windows XP with IE8 on the desktop.  It has been driving me crazy so I'm really glad it isn't just me!

Yes, I understand how aggravating it can be. Have you been experiencing this issue since the software change or did you notice it more recently? Thanks to everyone for their input to help us troubleshoot this!

More recently in the past week or so.  I can use the back button on the desktop but not the laptop.  Either way it's not a huge deal to me I just don't surf MDC on my laptop anymore.

Same problem here, and just over the past 3 days or so.  Back button works just fine for other websites.  I'm using Windows 7 and IE8.  It's on a desktop and I don't get the error message, just no change in screen.
