Hi from SW Virginia!

Just joined today.  I have a 2 year old and a 8 month old, and just moved here from a larger city.  Feeling pretty isolated, and looking for some community.

Hi Momma!  I have a 9 month old!  Are you anywhere near the New River Valley?  There are great mom groups & La Leche League, too!  I'd be glad to share information with you and hope to hear from you!  If you are not near here, I can ask my LLL leader if there are any groups or resources closer to wherever you are.

I don't think so.... though I am new enough I am not completely confident in the lay of the land here yet.  I am near Abingdon, so the final "bit" of Virginia before Tennessee.  Thanks for the greeting, and if there are resources out here, it would be nice to find them, so thanks!

I have a friend whose mom lives in Abingdon.  I will email her tonight to see if she knows of any mom's groups or La Leche groups...you might also want to call a hospital and ask for a lactation specialist (if they have one)--around here, those are the folks in the know about good momma stuff.  Being a mom can be (for me, anyway) really hard--of course, wonderful, too--and being isolated would drive me right over the edge.  I had a pretty thick case of PPD that I don't think I could have gotten through without the support of my husband, my mom's group, and La Leche.  I went to my groups with the same regularity as if it were a doctor's appointment I could not miss or a faculty meeting (I am a SAHM now, but taught for almost two decades prior to having our son).  I'll find out what I can for you and get back.

When I had my first I went to my Mom's groups the same way!  In fact that is the only piece of advice I give new Moms, find the other Moms near you who are in the same boat!  By the time I had #2, I was still so close with the first round of Moms, many of whom were also having 2nd babies, that I just stayed with them.... I miss them so much right now.... funny we had very little in common when you really got down to it except those babies, but it just worked....

Thanks for any tips you might have for this area.  I actually work and my husband stays home with the girls, but my schedule is flexible enough that I could work things out to find a mothering community....

It is pretty snowy here, but I got out for a much needed Cheerios run, so all is well.  Thanks for the tip on the co-signment sale... I have so many little baby things I don't think we will be needing again, but I don't want to start throwing stuff away..... and I am always on the market for new-to-us quality items.

Hope you are warm and enjoying that squirmy baby
