Sleep Regression

When my son was about 17months old my husband and I did a modified version of the cry it out method to help him learn how to comfort himself back to sleep. It only took about two nights, although for me it seemed so much longer, for him to start sleeping through the night. Up until that point he was still waking up every couple of hours. Since then we have moved from Arizona to Florida, with a six week stay in Nebraska with my mom while my husband was doing training in Oklahoma City. Since moving to FL he has regressed to waking up every hour or so. He will be fast asleep and wake up crying for me or will be fast asleep and start crying in his sleep. Not just a slight whimpering cry but a loud, frightened kind of cry. I have no idea what's causing this. I'm back to co-sleeping with him but even that doesn't keep him from crying in the middle of the night. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I don't know what to do at this point. It's a little frustrating because hubby and I want to start TTC next summer but at this rate if we did I'd never get any sleep between waking up with DS and the new baby. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I think the moving threw his internal clock off a bit. Perhaps trying to get him bed earlier and doing something soothing to ease him into (i.e., rubbing him with lavendar oil, reading, soft music) may help him ease back into a routine. My son is two and still wakes up crying or screaming sometimes. I just lay him back down and rub his back until he goes to sleep.
