Needle Felting?

I wondered if anyone had tried needle felting?

I found some kits today, with Llama or merino wool fibers (it looked very fluffy, soft individual fibers, not spun at all) and a barbed needle, with patterns to make animals. The sheep were adorable.

I have never tried needle felting before, I am not sure how to do it, though figure I can find instructions online somewhere. I wonder if anyone can give me a bit of advice here. My daughter is now expecting two cute sheep, and I have a lot of fluff and a barbed needle!! nut.gif  I am really a bit concerned I am being a little ambitious!

Thank you in advance!

Dh bought me a small kit for Christmas.  I really enjoy it so far, but when they say the needles are really fragile they are not kidding. I have already broken one of the three I got.

I'm a total newb, but I LOVE needle felting so far. I really like sculpture, and this feels similar to me. I've been working on a little cat for my son. It is easier than I thought it would be actually, so give it a try!

Ohhhh, thanks!

I started on the head of the momma sheep, but not sure how to join it to the body and it seems very `loose`. I think I need to jab the needle in a bit deeper.

I am meant to be making momma sheep and two lambs!

There is a nice blog about needle felting http://needlefeltingblog.com. You can find instructions and tutorials there too.

I know this thread is a bit old, but for some reason I just saw it today.  I have been needle felting since Christmas.  So far I have made a ladybug pin cushion and a multi-colored turtle.

I just bought some local wool so I can learn to process it myself into roving.  That hopefully will be lots of fun.
