Because ds ended in a c-section (after 26h of labour).   I loved my care with them and am very disappointed.  The problem is they are the only midwife group in my home town.

Oh mama, I am so sorry. I know how disappointing that must be. I, myself, am planning care with a traditional obgyn this go round, because midwives are not legal in my state, and there aren't any the practice underground within a reasonable distance. Its so hard, going from all natural and all unassisted to feeling like I am handing myself over to a doctor to do what she wants, basically. I know its not quite like that, but that's how it feels. I hope you are able to find a doctor that you are comfortable with that has a high vbac rate. Are there any midwives that are in neighboring towns that you could travel to?

No, unfortunately the nearest midwife would be about a 3-4 hour drive away.

Go to an ICAN meeting - try to network with other people who have had your experience.  They might be able to help you find an "underground" midwife who will do an HBAC.  If you feel more comfortable receiving routine care, then shadow with an OB until your feel secure in your decision.  And, of course, there's always UC!

if you can find an OB with the best vbac rate then you may have a good chance of finding a very accomodating and natural-minded medical doctor. 

my ob has one of the best vbac rates in the area that i live (although i've never had a c-section) and is very laid back and committed to vaginal delivery and pretty much lets you determine the course of action you want to take. i know of a few other OB's with similar reputations.

perhaps the midwife group or an experienced doula could point you in the right direction.

Don't blame them.  Blame the malpractice lawyers who have driven their insurance rates crazy high and make it unaffordable to take on the risk.

Oh, what a bummer. :(  They won't even do it in a hospital?  I'm surprised because I thought midwives in Ontario would care for VBAC mamas in most cases.

Could you get any info from the MWs about what OB they would recommend, perhaps one that would be more amenable to the kind of birth you'd like to have?  I know my MWs said that if we do a homebirth, there are a couple of hospitals close to us and the one we transfer to may depend on the situation (which tells me they have a good feel for the providers/policies of each one).

It's true! I'm vbacing with an ob, after having a midwife last time. I'm finding I like this guys 'style' much more than my midwife's in terms of medical care. I had heard he was good previously, but I didn't want a male ob. Now I wish I had just gone with him!

I know...I was really surprised.  I was planning on a hospital birth like last time with a midwife....I have emailed to ask if they could recommend obs there as doctors are in high demand...no reply so far

Yep.

That tiny group of VBAC moms who rupture? They mostly sue. An ONGYN board I used to read was full of docs who believed in VBAC, but were being told by the legal departments of the hospitals where they delivered that you can't adequately consent a VBAC- that the woman can always claim in court that she somehow wasn't aware of some particular risk.

That being said, I very much hope you can find a friendly provider! At least the pendulum has begun to swing back in their favor, w/the newer guidelines.
