Boy name- Hugo or Edgar?

I was hoping to get some opinions on a name for our baby boy. Right now I'm considering Hugo or Edgar. I think I'm probably leaning toward Hugo. We want a name that is traditional and masculine but not too horribly common. My husband also insists that it sound Mexican but I would also like it to sound sorta English/European. So what do you think of these names and do you have any middle name suggestions? I would like the middle name to be more nature inspired/ less traditional. My other children are Victor Troy and Lucia Sage.

I agree with your Dh that Hugo sounds Mexican, but that maybe just from watching LOST and I don't think there is anything wrong with that....

Personally I'm not a fan of either name, I'd be more likely to do an Edward than Edgar, but I'm not sure why exactly.

I like older names. DS is named Harvey, which is after my grandfather, but its opened my eyes to the beauty of older not as popular names.

Hugo is not mexican. Jimmy Carter has a grandson by that name. I love it!

Yeah Hugo is not Mexican but there are a lot of Mexicans with that name. That is why DH is OK with it. He says he doesn't want his kid to sound too white, whatever that means. But I'm white and I don't want my kid to sound too Mexican, lol. I think I am really leaning toward that and away from Edgar. Both names are listed on Spanish name lists and if you do searches for people with these names you come up with a lot of Hispanic looking people. I think its because they are Latin names that they can sound either way. That is why I like DS1's name- Victor

ETA: I just re-read my first post and realized that it sounded like DH doesn't like the name because it sounds Mexican but what I meant to say was that he wants the name to sound Mexican because that is where his parents are from. That is why I can't do something like Edward- not Mexican enough. Although I like Edward, reminds me of a sexy vampire lol. DH actually is the one who suggested Hugo and I initially disregarded it because of LOST it reminded me of a fat guy but now I am reconsidering. 10 years from now I'm sure no one will connect it to LOST.

I like Edgar much more. You also have to consider nicknames, which inevitably crop up and there is no stopping them. So Edgar will probably be Eddie, and Hugo, well, that one's not as certain.

Also, I couldn't name our baby until meeting him to be sure the name fits. I was surprised to see in the baby forum, once a thread came up, how many people end up changing their baby's name. I would think not pre-naming the baby before he's born could avoid that.

I like Edgar better.  Just my opinion.

I love Hugo, which sounds totally British to me.

I've never watched "Lost" and Hugo doesn't sound Mexican to me. I think the name is great! Go with Hugo!

Eduardo is certainly Mexican enough. Maybe Eduard is a good middle ground? And Hugh would be a more English version of Hugo, although I think of Victor Hugo and the Hugo Awards, neither of which are Mexican.

I prefer Edgar, but also like Hugo, which I think is very French. I am French, and that name is not at all unusual amongst my friends.

Victor Hugo is a famous author, not sure if that will bug you. Also reminds me of lost. But I prefer it over Edgar.

He's a freakin' awesome author, if that helps! Wrote Les Miserables and Notre Dame de Paris (more famously known as The Hunchback of Notre Dame). But yes, a Victor AND a Hugo would definitely make you seem like a fan.

I vastly prefer Hugo to Edgar, though... what about Hugh? Isn't that coming back into popularity?

Love Hugo!

Hugo was on my list until my DP expressed extreme dislike for it. I think they're both GREAT names.

Thanks. I think we are going to go with Hugo. I do have some reservations about people thinking we named our boys after the author but oh well. I can't think of any other name we both like as much. At least we have a child in the middle so I can say "'These are my children: Victor, Lucia and Hugo." instead of just "These are my children Victor and Hugo." Maybe it will be less obvious.
