When & how can I start trying to get my baby to nap on his own?

I have a six-week old and I'm wondering when he might start developing a "normal" two-nap-a-day schedule, and when I can start trying to get him to nap in his crib.

He sleeps with me at night, but I have a five-year old as well so I can't just nap with him during the day as I did with my older son. And my older son was a HORRIBLE sleeper, so I'm really hoping to have a better napper this time around. I'm not sure if my older son's issues were because I didn't try hard enough or just because of how he was.

Anyway, can anyone help me? It's day two of my DH being back at work and I'm dreaming of the day we have a regular schedule...

DS is not yet 6 months and he's not the best sleeper, but from what I experienced/read, regular naps don't really appear until about 5 or 6 months!  Not what you want to hear, I know.  My DS would only nap in his swing until a few weeks ago, but at least that would free you up to care for your older son.  Maybe try that?
