Help! Â I am a SAHM Â to a wonderful little 21 month old. Â We spend tons of time together, and I try to really provide a lot of time playing with him and reading with him. Â He always wants me to be with him, and can be clingy, which I understand and accommodate as much as I can.
Â
Over the past month or so he's started doing something I'm having trouble coping with. Â If we're playing or reading a story and anyone comes in and talks to me, he freaks out and screams. Â Not crying, but screaming. Â It happens for extended family as well as if my husband speaks to me. Â And since I'm pretty much always with my son, I do need to sometimes talk to people even if he's there.
Â
So far, my approach has been to say "I know you're sad and I know you want Mama to read to you, but I need to talk to Daddy. Â I will read with you again when I'm done." Â Then I will pat his back, hold him, or hold his hand and talk to whoever needs me. Â This hasn't worked and it's getting worse in that the screaming is just getting louder!
Â
I'm trying to be patient, but it's really getting to me. Â Any ideas on what I can do to help him get past this?
