sick AGAIN!! suggestions?

DS got sick the first week of Oct (first week of daycare).  Congestion and cough that was the same or slightly worse until almost Thanksgiving when we took him to doc because it was getting worse for sure.  This was after the regular home 'remedies'.  Round 1 of amoxicilian.  He got better but didn't shake it completely.  It started getting worse again to the point where he was having trouble nursing.  Round 2 of stronger amoxicilian.  Now, my doc doesn't much care of just giving out meds and she wanted to give something else, but he wasn't old enough yet.  We've done humidifier, vicks (in the room thingy), saline in his nose, eucalyptus...

Round 2 ended last Thursday.  He was clear!  No congestion, no coughing.  Yesterday it started again!  What is going on?  DP thinks home air quality - but if that were the case, why did the meds clear it up?  We have a humidifier in the bedroom and a large hepa air purifier in the hall.

I'm waiting for doc to call back, but in the meantime, any ideas?

I talked to her this morning and she doesn't want to prescribe more antibiotics, and doesn't want to do a CAT scan to check for a sinus infection (thankfully); she wants us to go to an ENT.  Anyone have experience with that?  I've never seen one...

I think an ENT is a good idea. What about an allergist, too? I'm wondering about allergies. It may be just a coincidence that the meds seem to be clearing it.

She did ask about allergies, but neither DP nor I have any.  I will keep that in mind though.  What should I expect from an ENT visit?
