Double Stroller Recs

Thread Starter

We have a 2 year old currently and are expecting our 2nd child within the next few weeks.  We need to get a double stroller but I am at a loss for what to get.  I really liked the Baby Trend Sit and Stand but then found out its not compatible with our infant seat (Chicco Key Fit).  I've also been looking at the Joovy Caboose Ultralight which also provides the seat for DD to stand on and is compatible with our infant seat for the newborn.  The biggest problem I've found with these is the price, $250 is a lot of money for a stroller that won't really get much use.  We barely use our existing stroller, really only for mall trips and such.

Does anyone out there have a double stroller that they just love and can recommend?  I really like the idea of a place for DD to stand because she HATES being strapped in and confined to a seat most of the time.  I think if she could stand or sit on a bench type seat she would be happy with that.  I'd really like to find one compatible with the Chicco Key Fit but we could get by without that compatibility if the stroller is really nice and a good price.

Any recommendations, thoughts or suggestions would be so much appreciated!!!

Well, if your DD isn't really into strollers and you're just looking to get something for her to stand on then I would suggest a Lascal Buggy Board.  It's a universal toddler board (it fits most strollers, they have a compatibility guide on their website) and basically attaches to the rear axle of your existing stroller and provides a place for your child to stand when needed.  They're around $85, but I found one on CL for $40.  It was a super easy solution, got a lot more use than a double stroller and cost a lot less!

I'm guessing the answer, but I'll ask anyway...  Is this at all compatible with jogging?  We've got a Bob Revolution that I love, but I'm not really into the $500 price tag for a double, yk?  I got back into running about 6 months postpartum with DS, so I have a while, but I'm guessing this is meant more for strolling?

My kids are 26 months apart, now 34 and 8 months, so I recently did loads of research....

Here is my 2 cents on the cheapo, as in under $150 options...

- regular ol' joovy caboose, sure not the ultralight, but still smaller than the baby trend option, and it comes in so many cool colors.... BUT I have read when you are using an infant seat, the bigger kid can't really sit on the sit and stand part because the infant seat gets in the way...

-Baby Trend Double Sit and Stand- ultimate flexibility, both spots take the car seat, so you can put the little one close to you, while the big one sits in front, or pop out the back seat, make it a sit and stand with the little one in front.  Most double strollers require the baby seat go in the front, this one doesn't.  This was the one we got because we knew we would use it since the toddler can sit when we want her to be seated and strapped in, and then she could use the sit and stand part.  Downside?  It is kind of immense and very heavy, but we have used it a lot so far.... heck we practically lived in it last summer....  I haven't converted it yet to the sit and stand, but plan to this summer.  Warning-- if you like this option be very careful to buy this exact one.  Many look very similar, but don't quite do the same thing....  we found the best price at target...

-On yet another side note, when we got our Ergo back out for the little one, my toddler took back to it.  They both like it so much we got a second so they can both be in at the same time.  I am wondering if it will be my "double stroller" this summer.

I wouldn't jog with it attached.  It works really well, but it does have its downfalls and one of them is it makes strollers a little more difficult to steer, which I think would cause problems with jogging.

I have the Phil and Ted's Dash and i really like it. Esp that you can use it as a single or a double. IME there are times when you just HAVE to strap your toddler in so that can't run away or create a disaster (if you're trying on clothes for example).

The buggy board solution wouldn't work for us because DH is tall and would kick it.

I had thought I would wear the baby and push DD but bought a double when DS was 2 weeks old.

I also loved my BOB revolution but I didn't want a side by side double. the P and T doesn't push quite as well as the BOB, but very close. It takes up about the same amount of room inthe trunk and automatically locks shut.

We rarely used a stroller before DD was born and DS was 2y 3m and used our double THREE times in her first 18m of life. So buy used if you can. We bought a new maclaren and luckily, it stores easily. Don't assume it will get a ton of use. I found it much easier to carry the baby and hold the toddler's hand AND HAVE A HAND FREE
