Where does your toddler nap?

We started the change from co-sleeping to sleeping on his own this week.  My boy is 18 months old, and until we have extra money, we just put his crib mattress on the floor of his room.  It's going okay, but he does end up back in our bed sometime between 1-4 am.  I'm windering if it would hurt the transition to keep putting him down for his nap in our room.  I nursed him down in his room, but he woke up 40 min later.  I could tell he was still tired, so I did the whole process again but in our bed.  I really don't want his naps to be under an hour, but if it's a bad idea to not be consistent about where he goes down than I guess I'll adjust.  Anyways, does anyone have any advice on the matter?  Thanks in advance.

When we transitioned DD to her crib, she kept napping in our bed, mostly because I usually needed a nap by then as well so I would just lay down with her and nurse her and we would both go to sleep. I started needing time to myself to get things done, so I started a naptime routine with her to get her to nap in her crib. It was a struggle at first, but honestly I just kept at it and pretty soon, she was napping in her crib with no problems. Having a naptime routine definitely helped. This is her routine now: She sits on the potty(she's about 80% trained and usually goes if I tell her it's nap time), we read 2 or 3 books, depending on their length, and then I nurse her to sleep and put her in her crib. She usually sleeps for about an hour and a half. I also make sure that the books we read are "sleepy" books, like Goodnight Moon and Bedtime for Frances. Good luck!
