So worried, please help

My DS is 14 months. He is still 100% breastfed. He has 7 teeth - 4 on the top and 3 on the bottom. For the past few days, he has been sticking his fingers in his mouth like he's teething. And for the past couple of days, we took him out to play in the grass. At night when I wash his face, I noticed that he has some black soot-like stuff in his nostrils so I q-tipped his nostrils. I'm not sure what the black soot-like stuff is and only noticed after he played in the grass. I live in Florida btw. Anyway, this morning, he sneezed more often than usual. And his nose has clear drainage. And his eyes are watery. I've searched and searched on the internet and even read Dr. Mendelsohn's book. I'm not sure if my son (who has never had even a cold before) has a cold or is just a normal part of teething (perhaps his molars are coming in? btw, is this the time his molars come in?) or allergies. I took his temperature under the armpit and it read 98.6F so I add 1 degree so 99.6F is his temp. Please help. He is my first and probably only (infertility) and I am worried sick!

It's difficult to say what he has but I can tell you that I'd definitely not be worried. I'd think he is probably getting a small cold. Teething is another good guess. Allergies would be my last option. I'm sure he has played in the grass before right? And what you describe from his nose... sounds maybe like dirt? Did he have dirt in his fingernails? Or does he try to "eat" grass, dirts, rocks...twigs?

Don't worry, I bet by tomorrow you'll know if it is teething or a cold. As for allergies, only time will tell.

They will shove stuff up their nose.  If you are able, have someone pin him down and look up his snooter with a flashlight to see if he put an acorn in there or something.  If so, you have the option of trying to pull it out yourself or take him to the doc and have them do it.
