Umbilical cord varix

Hello all,

I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to start posting. I'm 24 weeks pregnant today and recently had an ultrasound that showed my son's umbilical cord vein is enlarged. I've searched for information and there seems to be very little. Only a couple of people on MDC seem to have encountered it, and googling it doesn't bring up much either. It sometimes indicates a heart problem. I'm going to a specialist tomorrow, where I assume they will do an echocardiogram and maybe a higher level ultrasound?

Does anyone know more about cord varices? Someone else who has had one???

An update: We went to the specialist today and had another ultrasound done. They did a thorough job and told us everything they were measuring and explained what they wanted to see. It turns out that the "enlarged" vein was in the normal range and had been measured incorrectly in our previous ultrasound.    I'm glad I found some information on umbilical varix though, it allowed me to understand more of what was going on.
