Could I have a VBAC?

I am interested in having a VBAC and I am wondering if I am a good candidate for it. My son was born 7 weeks early on 7/14/10 by c-section due to severe pre-eclampsia. The surgery was not an emergency but was urgent. I have the low bikini scar from it. Throughout the pregnancy, there were no signs of fetal distress or any problems with the baby. The doctor said that each pregnancy is different and that if we wanted to try again there was no way to know if I would develop pre-eclampsia again. It has been almost 6 months since our first was born and we are talking about trying for another starting as early as next month. Does anyone know if I would be a good candidate for a VBAC and/or what I can do to increase my chances of having one?

You are a great candidate because the reason for your primary section is not likely to repeat.  The most important thing you can do to increase your chances of a successful VBAC is to find a supportive provider, a truly supportive provider.  Not one that will "let" you try and puts restrictions on when you go into labor and how you can labor.  Just a note, there is a recomendation to have 18-24 months between deliveries so the incision has sufficient time to heal, but there are tons of women that have shorter time intervals between births. The risk of rupture, regardless of interval, is around 1%.

Thanks for the response. I have done a lot of research so far and I think I am going to go for it next time. I have no regrets with my first birth experience but I have always wanted a natural birth too.
