custody case going to trial?

LONG STORY but short version:

My DD's dad is dating someone crazy(honestly she has been in mental hospital). My DD is afraid of the girlfriend, so I stopped visits. He took me to court. Well because of the girlfriends past, our judge ordered dad visitation with DD every Sunday 10-6 and girlfriend is not allowed to be present. This was in October.

I have a wicked horrible deputy prosecuting attorney for child support. She hates me and is out to get me. She requested that our case go to trial because it needs to be finalized. I have a different opinion as my daughter is still traumatized by the girlfriend. She is in play therapy(she is 4.5) and seeing a psychiatrist. I don't feel anything is ready to be finalized as it could harm my daughter mentally and emotionally.

There isn't a date set yet, but how long does it usually take for a trial date to be set?

I am pro-se, I have no clue where to begin. All the earlier papers were done by an attorney but I can no longer afford one. I know I have to write a declaration..but how? what do I include? Do I get declarations from the Dr.s too?

GAH..I am so scared. This girlfriend wasn't allowed to be around her own kids unsupervised. Now she is, but she only gets them one weekday from 3p-7p and then every Saturday from 11a-7p. The GAL report recommends that the girlfriend be reintroduced through therapeutic means. I don't want the girlfriend around at all, in fact I have a restraining order against her through November 2011. The thing I am worried about is DD dad and girlfriend are expecting a baby in april/may..I am sure the judge will consider that?

Where do I start?

and how do I approach schooling at home? not exactly homeschooling because it's a virtual academy through the public school system. She would be followed by a teacher once a week and then monthly also.

can't help with the visitation part but we're also doing independent study through a public charter school. That's how I word our homeschooling situation should anyone in authority ask =) It's a legal option through your public school and where she spends most of her time is irrelevant.

good luck with the gf issue.
