1 year blood tests

MY DD tested low for vitamin D (28) and on the low side for iron (11.3). Can anyone recommend any vitamin D drops?

I don't know any Vitamin D drops, but I wonder if taking your baby outside for a few minutes every day would help? In regards, to the iron, my midwife recommended increasing the amount of iron in my food by cooking it on an iron skillet. I think tomatoes in particular will absorb the iron when cooking them for a few minutes on the skillet. Good luck!

YEP!  This is what we use!

We live up North and we are deficient due to the lack of sun up here, despite being outside as much as possible (never had it tested, just assume due to our short days).  When dd was first born we had awful drops that were brown and smelly and took SO much to get into her, this is just a drop and you can put it in food/drink.

We use Baby Ddrops. There's only vit. D and a purified oil in it, nothing artificial, etc. It's super easy to use. http://www.ddrops.ca/baby-purchase.php

BTW, what blood tests did your dr order? DS didn't have any tests ordered at his well-baby visit...

We use these too!  Also, depending on how serious the iron situation is, I know that you can give toddlers Floradix.  Way better than the nasty stuff docs prescribe, tastes better, won't stain teeth, etc.

We live in the northeast and it is freezing cold. She needs to be so bundled up and the sun is so weak that it's pretty hard to get vitamin D. Plus I am middle eastern and it's hard for us to get enough in this climate.

My pediatrician recommended this:

Oddly enough, my daughter never minds the taste.

FWIW, a doctor should do a blood test in the first year to check for lead, and iron deficiency. Both can be done with a simple heel-stick.

We had a (totally nonproblematic) blood test done because we were doing some allergy tests too. thanks for the tips!

We use Carlson babydrops for vitamin d and BabyPlex multi-vitamins because neither contain anything artificial and no preservatives like Polyvisol and others you can by in the local markets.

I order these from www.vitacost.com

Hope this helps.

Ditto, except IME Floradix does stain teeth (and DS's tongue!)... my teeth had light greyish spots on them even if I tried swishing with water immediately afterwards etc. Still seemed better than the alternatives though, and the stains are gone now that I've stopped taking it!

We use the Carlson drops, too... but they have coconut oil as an ingredient.  Otherwise they are fairly allergen free...  an excellent multi for this age is the rainbow light powder packets... but you would have to take that to the allergist and see if it is okay since it is all food based.

I got these:

Everything else seemed to have something in it that DD couldn't have, like soy or coconut.

There are drops in an olive-oil base too, Natural Factors is one brand.

As long as it is D3 and not D2 you should be good.  thumb.gif
