Someone mentioned once that there are things you can do to or take to counteract and avoid the buildup of pesticides and toxins in our bodies. If anyone has any advice or info to share on this subject I would be greatful. Thanks in advance.

Here's a good page that talks about the nutrients our bodies use to excrete various things....
Â
http://tuberose.com/Liver_Detoxification.html
Â
The short version (but really, read the page, it's dense but good, even skip to closer to the bottom if that helps), is that different substances (metals, chemicals, both external and the ones our bodies make, like estrogen or adrenaline) need to be gotten rid of at some point--we can't just keep increasing the amount of estrogen circulating forever, it's supposed to go up and down and so we have ways to get rid of it.
Â
We use up nutrients to do this, and so we need to consume enough to meet current needs, and if we haven't taken care of ourselves as well as we could, or if we have exposures that are higher than usual, or if we have genetic tendencies to need more of some nutrients than the typical person, we may need to do some catch-up work.

Â
The top post on that thread is a summary from another book that lists out how various types of chemicals are excreted from our bodies--a lot of enviro chemicals are excreted via methylation, and then you look back at the first link and read a bit about methylation and what we need to keep it running.
Â
The basic place to start is fiddling with your diet to include more of various foods, ones that contain nutrients you may need more of. I never, I mean NEVER, thought that I'd be looking for recipes for chicken liver, or that I'd keep searching til I found a type of lentil that I enjoy, but here I am.Â

Thank you. I will check out the links soon. I am mostly concerned with eliminating anything I can from my DS's body. We have not been able to go 100% organic yet so those add up with all the environmental sources as well faster in his little body.

The same process applies, our kids start out with a share of the junk that we didn't excrete as we went through life, and then they start accumulating (or not) based on their own activities.Â
