Please share your Clomid experience!

Thread Starter

We've been TTCing for 2 years, and so far, nothing :(  My cycles are regular, and I'm quite positive I'm ovulating (I've temped my BBT for several cycles, and a blood test also confirmed ovulation).  DH and I have both been tested, nothing is wrong, so it's truly unexplained secondary infertility.  Anyways, I finally have a prescription for Clomid - AF is supposed to arrive this weekend, so if she does, I'll be taking Clomid next week.  Fingers crossed it's what we need to get PG!

Anyways, I would love to hear about other's experiences.  Any tips for taking it? I think I read that it's better to take it at night - is that true?  Any other comments/suggestions about using it?  I heard it might dry up cervical fluid, so I bought some Pre-Seed.  Did anyone chart their temps while they used it?  Did you still ovulate on your "regular" day (ie if you normally o'd on day 14, did you still o on day 14?)  My doctor also didn't think progesterone was worthwhile (even though my luteal phase is kind of short, 10-11 days), so he didn't prescribe that, or request a blood test at day 21.  So basically, I'm just taking Clomid on days 5-9 and hoping for the best!

As well, I'd love to hear success and/or didn't work stories.  Was anyone else ovulating normally before taking Clomid, and then find that it helped them get PG?  Or were most people who had success with Clomid not ovulating regularly prior to taking it? How many cycles did it take to work for you, or how long did you try it before you moved on to something else?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just curious about what it's going to be like and trying not to get my hopes up too much.  Thanks for answering!

ETA - oh, and I forgot to ask, what's the difference between taking it days 3-7 or days 5-9?  I'm thinking of taking it at night, day 4-8 (so closer to 5-9, which is what my dr prescribed).  I'm just not keen on a really late ovulation date, as I normally ovulate day 13-15, and a later ovulation will make for a longer cycle.

I am currently on my second Clomid cycle.  I, too, was ovulating prior to the Clomid, but my doctor thought that my corpus luteum wasn't strong enough to support a pregnancy, as I would always start spotting around 7dpo, making implantation difficult.  Based on what a lot of other ladies said, I do take the Clomid at night (around 8pm) in hopes that I'll sleep through the side effects.  The only side effect I've noticed is moodiness - I make sure to warn DH ahead of time!

As for when you O on Clomid, it's supposed to happen five to ten days after you take it.  The first round, I O'ed on my regular O-day (CD15... eight days after the Clomid).  This cycle, though, I O'ed a little bit earlier (CD13... six days after the Clomid)... and O was actually painful this cycle, as in it woke me up from a dead sleep.  Not sure if that's normal for being on Clomid, though, but it was definitely unusual for me.

In regards to the CM, the first cycle I didn't have any dryness issues.  I drink a ton of water, though - around 100 ounces a day - to counteract it.  I can't really say what it did this cycle, as I wasn't checking CM.  I didn't notice any unusual dryness though.  I may try PreSeed next month, though, just to try it.

I do keep temping while taking the Clomid.  Here's a link from my chart if you are interested.  The temps this cycle are kind of crazy because I'm sick and have been running a low-grade fever for the past few days.  www.fertilityfriend.com/home/2e5d89

From what I've read, there's no real differences as far as results on which days to take it.  Most of what I've seen said it's just doctor preferences.  I did see somewhere online that supposedly one date-set encouraged more follicles, whereas the other one encourages stronger follicles... couldn't tell you which is which.  I take it CD3-7.

Unfortunately I don't have a success story yet, but I'll let you know when I do!  Good luck to you!

I got pregnant with both my kids on clomid plus metformin (I have PCOS). PCOS is often undiagnosed so you may want to look into more testing for that if the clomid alone doesn't work for you.

Anyway, I didn't have a lot of side effects from it, aside from maybe being more emotional. I did ovulate late, but got pregnant both times on my second round of clomid 100mg. My CF was fine, voluminous in fact.

Good luck! :D
