AL governor told me to vaccinate...

I just moved out of Alabama, but I was forwarded a greeting card-type letter that was sent to my previous address. (I had a baby in July)

On the first page it says: "A darling little baby to cuddle and adore, To spoil a little an dlove a lot- who could ask for more!"

The next page says: "As parents, we know how precious your baby is to you.  Keeping your little one healthy means starting immunizations by two months of age.  Congratulations, and remember to get those shots!"  Then it has the printed signatures of Governor Bob Riley and his wife Patsy Riley.

As if that is not enough, there is a litle tear off card on the clearly labelled Hallmark card that is for an Immunization Record!!

Boo to Hallmark for printing these things, and BOOOO to Governor Bob Riley for spending taxpayer dollars to send this junk mail out to everybody who has a baby in AL!!  I wonder if the incoming governor will do this. He's a MD, so he probably would.  I thougt about responding to this 'greeting card'  by sending Gov. Riley a letter, but since he's out of office soon, maybe I shouldn't bother??

Eww that would put a bad taste in my mouth too. I wouldn't bother responding however, unless you feel that it would make YOU feel better about it yk?

We got a very similar card from the governor of TN when DS was born! I think they are all in cahoots! LOL!

We got one when our daughter was born in Missouri, too. Our son was born in Kansas (although we lived in Missouri) and we didn't get a card then.

I got one of those when my youngest child was born.  We lived in Alabama at the time.  They are a crazy waste of money.  I also got a letter from the ADPH that had several visual depictions of severely ill children, also to remind me to vaccinate.  The latter came when my then unvaxed three year old was around two so I believe it was more targeted, though I am not sure.

I got one of those in Maine too! I was a little disturbed by it, but not at all surprised. I remember opening it and thinking it was so nice that the state sent cards to new babies. Then I turned it over and said "WHAT?! It's a vaccination campaign?!" I was pretty annoyed.

I got one in 2005 in AZ when my daughter was born.  Hallmark has a charitable giving campaign where they donate cards to states:  http://corporate.hallmark.com/community/national-programs

They call it "protecting the health of our youngest citizens."

It irritated me too when I got the card.
