i have intense chocolate cravings and i am aware this can be possibly related to low magnesium levels. i tried supplementig with Natural Calm mag but it caused terrible diarrhea in my breastfed toddler. are other types of mag supps better tolerated? does this reaction imply she already has enough magnesium, or is mag citrate just hard on the gut? any other nutritional sollutions for chocolate cravings?

Maybe try cell salts? They help with absorption/utilization, so you may have fewer low mag symptoms w/o actually supplementing mag. I'd try it for both of you. Just bioplasma (the 12-in-1) was enough for my low mag symptoms, but maybe bioplasma + mag phos for you two? You may want to double-check by reading the Cell Salts thread in Health & Healing.Â

Mag citrate is one of the better forms, some people do better on mag glycinate though, so that's something to try.Â

I'm intolerant of chocolate and have craved it, but even being intolerant of it, I craved it more when I was low on magnesium, so I wouldn't rule out needing mag even if you do think you may be intolerant.Â

Other people tolerate more magnesium when they supplement calcium first--the two need to be balanced and while most people are lower on mag than calcium, it's not true for everyone. And again, you could either try a straight-up calcium supp (probably directly to your LO, most adults don't get low enough in calcium that it'll swing a lot in their breastmilk based on eating more/supplementing, though there are exceptions to just about everything), or you could try I think calc phos, the cell salt--I _think_ that's the one to help with calcium absorption/utilization. Again, better to check in the main thread, I am pretty new to cell salts.Â
