What do you have to do to get ready for baby?

It is pretty normal for me to nest for my entire pregnancy and this one is no exception. I think I am feeling a sense of urgency also because I am registered for three classes that start May 17th and so I am also wanting to get things done before they start.

I have been scavenging the house for things to make newborn dipes with. I have all sorts of big diapers but this time around I think some little baby dipes would be handy. I will need covers as most of his are in rough shape.

I was thinking about it too and it was still really hot when ds was a newborn so I don't have a lot of little itty bitty sleepers and the like as he was pretty much in onsies when he was small. I am signed up for a knitting class but I think an outfit might be beyond me for awhile. I am hoping to get some soakers made.

I too have signed up for the wool soaker knitting class,Wooly Wonders,from Pamela!

I'm kinda going batty myself,wanting to make sure everything is how I want it and what not! I want to be able to knit the baby a going home outfit!!!

Well, I have to sew a bunch of diapers for this one. We started cd'ing when dd was 3 months old and since I sewed all of them, I wasn't happy with the bulk of my first diapers. I have changed how I make them drastically since I first began sewing. Plus, I didn't have any nb dipes to start with. So, lots and lots of dipes to make. I would also like to sew a basic layette for the baby. We had dd at the beginning of summer, so I too, will have to get some more winter friendly nb clothing for this one. We definitely need to get a few dressers for the nursery to get things more organized, but besides that, we don't need to do much buying for this one.

i can just barely use my old singer, so i think that trying to sew diapers would be doing no favors to either myself or the babe-to-be. i can knit, though, and have started a really simple soaker in plum lamb's pride. i've also got some patterns from fern & faerie that look interesting: a pull-on soaker, full pants, shorts, and a pattern for converting thrift-store sweaters into soakers with a sewing machine. it feels really strange still to be knitting for the baby, though, so i don't work on it very often.

i don't have any diapers, so i'm thinking i'll go with cpfs with covers, maybe some fuzzy bunz for nighttime or maybe just make some fleece pockets to stuff and insert. toying with the idea of contours or fitteds for trimness, but they're SO much more spendy. i just can't get my head around it.

we plan to cosleep, and have some friends who will likely hand us down their arm's reach cosleeping thinger. other than that, i figure i just need clothes, a car seat, a sling, soft little baby towels, and a place to change diapers. oh yeah and maybe a rocking chair.

Humm... we will need some newborn winter clothes, I can't wait to use onesies again, I loved those. Need a waterproof pad to change him/her on. That's about all! Oh a carset, going to talk the inlaws into buying a Britax for us since they can afford it and we can't. I also need to get a few dozen prefolds and some covers.

I"m with the majority...the only thing I really need to do is sew up some diapers. I am probably not going to find out the gender, so I'll just sew neutral dipes. I didn't start using my own dipes until Elijah was a year (that's when I quit the service because we moved ) and I do have covers for newborns, but they are all proraps, so I'd like to get/make some wool ones. I have plenty of soakers and wool covers in size Medium tho. (Eli is skinny)

I would really like to move Elijah to a toddler bed in our room before the new one gets here and also night wean him. I was thinking about slow potty learning since he goes every morning (poop) like clockwork. ..but my older kids were very late trainers so I'm not going to count on that!! Anyway..those are my hopes...whether or not they happen...

I'd also like to sew up some newborn outfits from the PRR fabric I've got coming, but I heard that it's really not good quality this season so that might not work out, I may just make a quilt with duckie themes instead..esp. if we get a girl called Daisy!!

DH and I just made a quick rough draft, and like many of you, I also had a different season babe last time, so will need some warm clothing for my infant. And a car seat, and a new dresser for dd. But the list isn't so long. What we really need to do is finish unpacking from our move (last year--been remodeling etc..) have a yard sale, and ideally, complete the weaning process for dd (almost 3) and encourage potty learning before fall!!

Also, I used disposables last time And will be using cloth this time. It sounds like many of you could teach me a bit about seeking the best source for that route. I'm still in happy shock at the realization that you can sew your own. Obvious, but I'd never thought of that. I'd love to know more. Thanks

I am with you on the have a yard sale thing Jane T. I never realized how much stuff I have. When we had ds a lot of the family dumped their old baby clothes off on us because they knew I had long since got rid of the girls baby stuff.

I have 48 newborn onesies! I took out all the white ones and have them soaking in soda ash and then I will tie die them. I can keep the ones I like best and sell the rest.

There is a lot of stuff that was polyester that ds never wore. I think I am going to try to sell some of it on ebay first that takes less energy than a garage sale.

THe part that really stinks is that all my cotton baby clothes have developed that mysterious yellow stain that stored clothes do and all the sythetic crap is fine. I should be able to get them clean.

Just put the yellowy ones out on a sunny day, they should bleach out. Or oxyclean..soak them a while, then wash. Oxyclean isn't as offensive as bleach, but a lot of ppl still don't care for it. Since I wash diapers every 3 days I'm in love with the stuff and the sunshine gets whatever I don't!!

On sewing diapers..watch out, if you like sewing, sewing diapers is addictive..darn things are so cute!! Go to www.sewshoppe.com and www.diaperfabric.com to learn about what fabrics are used. I make my mystic bunz with wovens, burley knit terry, flannel and microfleece, but I bought some sherpa and hemp to try out some other designs. I also make pocket diapers, which is one of the best nighttime systems as far as I'm concerned. You just stuff the diaper with as much or as little as you want..

Ok..i'm babbling..I need to have a yard sale, too.. We moved here from CA in december and we got my stuff out of storage in PA where I lived b4 I met DH..I had 2 kids, thus a 4 bdr house..so now we have WAY too much stuff. I now have 2 couches, a day bed, a refrigerator, several old mattresses and lots of old kitchen stuff sitting in my garage...it's gotta go!

LOL..can I relate..Tom had the ugliest couches I've ever seen and an air mattress that leaked all the time when I moved in with him...and the cheapest bedroom furniture known to man. I put my old bedroom furniture (cherry set) in our guest room since it was from a previous marriage it was a little weird for us to use it...plus we have a king bed now and it's a queen set. Anyway, when we moved we used our extra profit from the old house to buy nice new furniture for the LR and a tempurpedic king mattress for us. But we still need a bedroom set and we put the old uglies down in the basement den room. We also have a futon in the future kids room, and a guest bedroom set..and my older son's set in his room. Just too much stuff dernit!!

I am too. I think it comes from being too tired to do much besides sit at the computer and oddly enough ds has been entertaining himself with his train table this AM.

Steve had blow up furniture from IKEA. Needless to say it is gone.

Ha, I'm still laughing about the blow up furniture. Really? What a hoot.:LOL Anyway, I just figured out another thing I need to do, find materninty clothes for the spring, summer, fall!! I have some wintery things from dd's pregnancy (rather, my pregnancy with dd) but am fearing that my belly is already growing and I'll need a few things to keep my spirits up.

Meg, thanks for the diaper sewing info. My friends and family already think I am the weirdo of the century for myriad reasons, sewing my own diapers will only confirm their suspicions

The really funny part about the furniture is that my MIL bless her is seriously obsessive compulsive about throwing things away so when she figured out that I really wasn't going to use the stuff she took it home with her. Then when my youngest SIL graduated from college and got a job and an apartment MIL took the nasty old stuff up to her and is making her use it because it is foolish to buy new when that "perfectly good furniture" is going to waste.

Poor Meo she called me just crying her eyes out because her because she doesn't dare get rid of it or MIL will freak.
The only reason dh "got" to pass it on is because MIL thought the girls would be too rough on it and pop it.


eta I need clothes too. Last time I can get away with rolling the waist up on my skirts but they get shorter and that could be chilly in November.

I just bought two new maternity blouses today. I could pretend to be showing since I'm so much fatter than I was when I got pregnant the last time!! My old maternity stuff is NOT going to last me, so I got a size bigger.

I also had a lot of not convenient to nursing maternity dresses for last time and that won't work with the super boobie lovin' boy

My pleasure on the diaper sewing..just beware..it is really addicting...

I just bought two new stacinator covers for the new baby today..so I guess i've accepted the baby is coming A little 2.5 yr old daughter of my good friend told me today it's Daisy Jane. (She was the one that picked the name Daisy too).

Right after I found out we were pg, I took pics of a client at their "schoolhouse." They've been renovating it for over a year and were going to put in on the market because they haven't found renters they liked well enough.

We are moving into in in less than two weeks--that is my biggest prep for the baby! Lots of space. It's so fantastic--take a look;

Other than that, I think we are going with a birth center birth because of our remote location and my kids have a tendency not to breath really well after birth--Zoe needed 5 rounds of CPR and it was scary. If we needed a hospital transport and the bridge was backed up (likely with the traffic around here), it would be too late.

So... I have to mentally prepare for a different kind of birth. For me, that is huge!

I need to stock up on cloth diapers, sew a maya wrap, and get a couple of dressers for the clothes and diapers. I think everything else is covered unless I want to upgrade a stroller or carseat.

As far as DS. We would like to get him into the toddler bed (in our room) for the night and using the potty before his brother/sister gets here.
