Anyone know anything about canine bloodwork? Specifically high Amylase?

So we brought the beast into the vet b/c she had had a seizure the night before and had a couple of infected spots on her face and what looked to be an eye infection.  Yeah I know lol, poor dog.  So we run a comprehensive blood panel and put her on eye ointment for the eye infection.  According to the doc the spots on her face were healing up so just keep an eye on them but they should be fine.  (A friend of ours was watching her and his puppy got her in the face it looks like.  Luckily he didn't get her eye.)  So the vet calls me, tells me the blood work looks good but her WBC was high as were her eosinophils so she wants to do a fecal and put her on an abx to see if that helps w/ the WBC's.  What she didn't mention to me is that her Amylase was at 1842, she said everything else looked good so I'm kinda confused.  They mailed me the results so this is why I'm wondering.  Anyone have any ideas?  Everything else does look good, her cholesterol was a little high but besides that she's in good shape.

Well...high Eosinophils generally mean there is an allergic reaction in the body.  A high white count is representative of some sort of infection.  We generally do a Lipase test as well if Amylase comes out quite elevated.  Often elevated amylase and lipase is indicitave of pancreatitis....any vomiting and diarrhea?  Without knowing normal levels (each machine has it's own normals) it is hard to say.

See that's what confused me, her lipase came out well within the normal range and she's had no vomiting or diarrhea!  Amylase was  1842 w/ the range being 450-1240 U/L and her Lipase was 415 w/ a range of 100 - 750 U/L.  High eosinophils can also be indicative of parasites so its easier to check for those first rather than allergies.  I think we're just going to get her the abx on monday and see if that helps everything and also do the fecal to check for the parasites.  Its just that amylase level that has me really confused.
