Needing to wean 2.5 yr old who is not interested at all

My son is 2.5 and would nurse all day long if allowed (he's not). We have recently night weaned, so he has no milk from the time he falls asleep until 6am (or whenever he wakes up asking for it after that time) and then will nurse for about an hour or so then, then to fall asleep for his nap and to wake up from his nap, and finally to go to sleep at night. My husband and I compromised a while ago about no nursing past 2 3/4 yr (hubby wanted 2.5 and I said 3yrs). It would unfortunately be detrimental to our marriage if I continued to nurse him past that point. I am a very strong breastfeeding advocate, but I feel having a whole and happy family is more important at my son's age. My question is how do I stop? How do I get him to fall asleep for a nap or at night without nursing? I thought I would try to get some ideas now, so I am able to wean him by April. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would start by putting limits on it now.  Start cutting out nursing sessions and get him used to hearing "no".  It might be hard at first, but it will get easier.

Good luck.

The no cry sleep solution has some good tips for getting a LO to sleep without nursing, including introducing a lovey and such.  Good Luck!

We're in the process right now. I started by cutting out the morning session. And then the next week we cut out the bedtime session - that was definitely much harder but it's been 2 weeks & he's now accepted it. However our bedtime is now MUCH later so I am taking more time before cutting out the next session (before nap).
