3yo STILL always hungry. I need ideas. *POST 15* please help. - Page 3

can you get out of the house more (i know hard with a 1 year old, but sounds necessary to get away from the refrigerator)?

can you move up your doctor appointment (i think the issue with your 1 year old is resolved now, right?)

are you writing it all down in detail for the doctor? if nothing else, detail *everything* she eats, and write down word for word what she says re: being hungry, wanting to eat all day. make it your job to detail it all, then give that to the doctor and say, this is the past week alone. HELP ME!

then, don't quit until you get evaluated for all of the possible medical causes of this. and if it's not medical, i would see a psychologist. for her.

Thanks.  I was actually really lucky to get an appointment so soon with this doc- there must have been a cancellation.  I'm using this time to log her daily food intake (Starting tomorrow officially, so that there is a solid week's worth of journaling).

Ohhh, my heart goes out to both of you! I can't even imagine how you feel. I was going to suggest getting her tested for parasites too, like a PP did. Also, since you suggested you think it could be a sensory issue, maybe ask the doc for a psych referral that you could do while you wait for the test results to come back. Even if there is a physical foundation for her hunger that can be "fixed" (like getting rid of a parasite), she is now in a pattern of wanting/needing to eat constantly and it may not be easy to break that cycle even if she is no longer physically hungry. Habits are easy to form and hard to break, and little bodies and brains have it even harder.

As for filling her up for the next few days, til your appointment, will she eat beans? I know you mentioned hummus, but maybe other beans (like added to tacos or pureed in sauces and smoothies) will help add fiber and fill her up. I used to put beans in DS's smoothies b/c he wouldn't eat during the day and then he'd be hungry all night. Adding beans gave him enough bulk to keep him feeling full through the night til we could break the cycle. I know your DD's hunger is much more extreme, but maybe it could help? And I agree with cutting back on dairy (except yogurt) -- up the fiber and the fat!

Everything is scattered in different threads so I'm trying to get everything together.  I've been trying to post for awhile now but the internet has been going in and out..
