Gbs+ and newborn screening?

I'm 38 weeks and just found out I'm gbs+.  Of course, I went online and read all about it- horror stories.  I'd planned on having the baby in the hospital and literally being discharged asap.  My insurance won't pay for me or the baby if I don't have a discharge from a doctor, so... what happens when I go into labor, take the antibiotics while in labor- will they still make me and my baby stay in for 48 hours after he's born, even though there are antibiotics, or will they let us leave earlier, or what?  Also, what else should I know as far as gbs+ for me and the baby during/after birth?

If you take the antibiotics, they shouldn't have a problem discharging you right away.  If you don't, they often want to keep the baby longer.

From what I was told if you recieve both doses of antibotics then you can be released within 12 hours of birth, if you miss one or both doses then they won't sign you our for 48 hours.

Okay, thanks.  I want to spend no more than one night in the hospital, less if I have a quick labor.  I just want to be home with my baby.

Make sure you don't wait too long to go to the hospital then.  If you arrive too late into labor, you might not get all the antibiotics that they'll require for you to have.  Then you'll have to stay the 2 days.  Also, you could also check with you're baby's pediatrician.  I believe the pediatrician is the one that discharges the baby from the hospital.  The OB will discharge you.  The pediatrician can tell you under what circumstances they'll discharge the baby.  If you don't agree with them, then you should find another pediatrician before having the baby.

I plan on going as soon as I'm in labor or my water breaks, for that exact reason.

For the time being, the baby will be on my insurance, and once he's born, I can apply him for either Medicaid or Child Health Plus, so he will be starting out using the pediatricians affiliated with the hospital.  Once he's born, I can apply and they'll have his incurance card out to me in time for his two week checkup with his pediatrician (who does not take MY insurance).  (I know, not the best situation, but the best I've got to go on until then.)  Will this make a difference with discharging the baby?
