New uses for old t-shirts

I finally got my husband to clean out his t-shirt collection and now I have a HUGE stack of old t-shirts that need a new life. Most of them aren't even in a state to be fit to donate. I'm not sure what to do with them all! We're good on cleaning rags and don't have anyone to diaper at the moment. We have a couple of pet rats and so a few of them are going to be rat snugglies. I found a simple pattern to turn a t-shit into a shopping bag and I think I'm going to do a couple of those, and I thought about trying to make a loofah or two for the shower (we have a couple I bought that are terrycloth and I like them because they're washable). What else...?

Call your local animal shelter and see if they could use them?

Tear some up and tie them together to use as string in your garden (for beans, etc.?)

Make a rag rug?

I just made a huge stash of family cloth out of old tshirts.  They work much nicer than the old receiving blankets.

I cut out the back of large t-shirts and use them to dry my hair with. I have curly hair, and using a terry cloth towel to dry curly hair can make it frizzier, but old T-shirts are great for this.

I second the family cloth and make small squares to replace cotton balls.  You don't have to sew because t-shirt material does not fray.
