Right now the boys are sleeping upstairs and me and Rohana are down on the couch. Ryan was such a big boy last niht and fell asleep all on his own, didnt ask to nurse, and whenever he woke up would just cuddle up with daddy so mommy could take care of his sister. In a half an hour she will be 1 day old! As some of you know, we had a few days of false labor earlier this week so we didn't really expect to have a baby anytime soon! Started having contractions a little afternoon on Friday which got to be pretty botherome during Ryguys nap and tried calling Ray. Finally got ahold of him sometime after 4. After he got home he called our doula, Malinda who got ready to come over. We hung out and played with Ryan while Ray took a nap and later on called our midwife and our friend Keitha who was going to help with Ryan. well... Ryan didn't agree with that so Ray was taking care of him for most of my labor. Our midwife got there and checked me, so I was 2-3 cm at 10:30pm. After that we all tried to get some rest thinking it would be awhile. I layed down in Ryans room but couldn't sleep so I just focused on breathing through the contractions. After awhile Malinda came to check on me and started doing counter pressure on my back which really helped. I ended up throwing up a couple of times then leaning over the back of the couch during contractions. Keitha and Malinda called the midwife back and told Ray I needed him. The boys came down and Ryan nursed then fell asleep leaning on me. He was not happy when I had to get up but by that point I was in transition. My midwife told me I should try using the bathroom and oh my goodness was I in pain! I was pushing involuntarily and my water broke as I was standing over the toilet. I was in denial and just thought I had to poop. everyone started heating up water for the pool which was only half full as Merideth tried to get me to let her check for the baby's head which I wan't really cooperating for but hey you're allowed to be irrational during transistion right? when I finally let her she said she could feel the baby's head and I needed to get in the pool. It was chilly so the girls kept pouring hot water in as it was ready and I was still involuntarily pushing and trying to just breathe my baby down. It was very intense and I have no doubt if we were at the hospital I would have been begging for pain relief lol. I even bit my poor hubby during a contraction (sorry!) Ryan was wide awake at this point and happily playing by the pool. I remember Keitha asking him if he wanted to play with her in the other room but he didn't want to budge. I ended up catching our baby as she was born at exactly 5am. We cuddled as we waited for the cord to stop pulsing then Ray got to cut it and have some skin to skin time with the baby while we waited for the placenta to be delivered. I ended up bleeding quite a bit so I got a shot of pitocin afterwords then later some cyotec (sp?) Then mommy and baby got wrapped up in towels and layed on Ryan's bed while Merideth checked me out. I didn't tear at all which I really think was from being in the tub. After that I nursed her and we cuddled for awhile. Eventually I needed to use the bathroom and wanted to get dressed so Merideth started doing the newborn checks ect. Oh, her apgars (sp?) after birth were 8 and 9 I believe. Rohana was 21 inches long and her head was 13.5 inches. Everything checked out fine and they got her cleaned up since she kept going poop. She has a little tongue tie but can stick her tongue out pretty far so it might not need to be clipped. Daddy got to weigh her and she was 9lbs on the dot! She definitely looks like her daddy so far. Afterwards Daddy and Ryan went to get some more sleep and I got to cuddle the baby some more while our birth team worked on cleaning up. Everyone eventually left by around 9am and we had a quiet day. Rohana was eventually named lol. She'll be getting her 24hr checkup sometime later this morning and getting some blood drawn :( for her pku test. So that is our update for now. We'll have more pictures next week or so whenever we see Malinda again. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and a big thanks to our birth team for everything!
