Good Toddler Vitamin

Thread Starter

My DS1 just turned 2 and I think he needs a vitamin. He is a great eater, but would like to give him one just do to the fact our food is so nutritionally deficient due to poor soil quality etc... I would like some recommendations on a good whole foods vitamin made for toddlers/young children. TIA!

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "whole foods."

My pediatrician recommended this:

http://www.amazon.com/Enfamil-Poly-Vi-Sol-Multivitamin-Supplement-1-67-Ounce/dp/B001F0RA20

Oddly enough, my daughter never minds the taste.

I bought some Shaklee, and was satisfied with that, as well.

I started with Focus Factor for Kids. Not a multi-vitamin, but it was the ONLY one in our local Kroger that didn't have artificial colors or flavors. DS loves them. Interestingly, they stopped his whining, fussing, and mini-meltdowns. When we miss a day, he's fussy and whiny by dinner time. He also takes Nordic Naturals CLO. BTW - this is the only time I have ever seen a vitamin, mineral, or other supplement make such a clear difference. Even with his food allergies and intolerances, I've never seen such an obvious cause-effect relationship.

I have purchased 2 at our local HFS. DS has not had enough doses of either to allow me to comment on any observed effects.

Sources of Life Nature's Plus Animal Parade. Has whole food concentrate of broccoli, carrot, spinach, brown rice, mango... I take one a day, lol, because he started rejecting them after the 3rd day. Cost = $3.50/mo for a 2-yr-old.

Irwin ids BerryLicious Super Multi soft chews. Bought these yesterday, and DS rejected it. (I think he's being obstinate, as they're really not bad at all.) Broccoli, carrot, kale, raspberry concentrates. Cost = $7.59/month for a 2-yr-old.

I don't think either of the whole food multis taste particularly bad, but DS just seems to REALLY like the Focus Factor, which was the first one he had, so anything that's different from FF he's rejecting.

These are the ones we use (although we don't do it daily). I liked that it had smaller quantities of each component than some of the other multivitamins out there -- megadoses freak me out, especially for toddlers!! Also one dose = two vitamins with Animal Parade, so you can just give half-doses (one vitamin) or do one in the morning, one at night so the body has a chance to absorb everything. DS loves them but I think they smell & taste gross (like SweetTarts), but then again I cannot stand any chewable vitamin or candy.

DS takes/ loves Nordic Naturals Nordic Berries and Children's DHA Strawberry Flavored Chewable Soft Gels. He reminds me after every meal. He calls the fish caps "fishwish".

I give my 2 year old the floradix kinderlove liquid.

My 2 year old DD takes the Floradix one too and sometimes she takes Sacred Vibes Apothecary Children's Multi, which is a liquid also.

My DS takes this one as well, but in the liquid form.  He has never acted like it tasted gross, and he is pretty picky.

My 20mo DS always asks for his bine-a-min, and we give him Catalyn Chewables, a whole food vitamin. Serving size is 3 vitamins daily for age 4 and up so I thought, and his ND agreed, that we could just give him one a day.
