We'd been getting free-range organic eggs from a near-by farm for a couple of weeks. my 2 yr old ds' cheeks are red, dry and scaley. He's also not sleeping well at all and is more whiney. We took him off them for a few days, he healed up, then tried it again to the same results. Guess eggs are largely out. He seems ok when they are cooked into things, so maybe we can still get them into their diets. :(

We have 1/4 pastured organic beef coming this week, and a full goat next week. Also 3 kinds of alaskan wild-caught fish. We've tried local raw cow milk, but it just isn't happening. I'm trying raw goat's milk when the local goats have kidded, and a sheep farmer is willing to try a sheep share with me, so we can try different milks to see if anything is going to work. Fingers crossed. Can this be done well w/o butter?

I've been fermenting my butt off. Got cherries today for cherry chutney, a la Sally Fallon. And ginger carrots. I also got some goat's cheese, whitefish caviar, and smoked oysters. The kids tried every bit of it and LOVED it! I'm so proud of them! Also, my 3 yr old ds tried figs for the first time today, with much trepidation and was surprised to love them VERY much. I'm so proud of their bravery today. We've always had an adventurous attitude about "try it, you'll like it", and if you don't, oh well. But some of these things are very new and different here so I was impressed. We'll see how they like the chicken livers later this week...

Our kitchen has become a little science lab and it's getting kinda fun.
