I had no idea large boards were so expensive. I was hoping to have something large enough for a calender plus maybe a to do list/ grocery list or notes.

Even on craigslist large boards are 50+. I know there is chalkboard paint... is there an inexpensive soluation for dry erase boards?

I had been wondering about this too... found these links that might be helpful!

A bit more work than just buying one, but HUGE savings!

We've had good luck with melamine sheets from the hardware store.

Home depot sells large sheets of melamine for pretty cheap.

When you say large how large do you want to go?  I ask because i've picked up a dry erase calendar at Ikea for under $20 its about 16x16 so the blocks that have a nice space for writing plus it has a section for "notes" vertically on the left.  I got  it a few yrs ago and its held up very well.  We have several dry erase boards (we hs) and have gotten some larger ones at costco for under $30 that were magnatized as well.

I found very large, framed ones at Target.  I think they were $20.  I bought them about a year ago though.  They were over in the office supply area by the poster board.

ETA: guessing they are about 2x3 feet.

I saw a tutorial somewhere that you could use an old picture frame with some pretty paper (or white I suppose) under glass. Apparently the markers write really well on glass.

Maybe you could pick one up at a thrift store?

Or a mirror, maybe! my gf and I used to write notes with dry erase markers on mirrors.
