What are the most comfortable underpants for boys? And where can I find some pink ones?

My son has spent the last year in Imse Vimse training pants. They were expensive and very comfortable. I've been looking at other underpants and they all seem stiff and uncomfortable. He is a big kid and 3 1/2 probably needs a size 6.

Both the gymboree and gap have a big piece of elastic at the top that looks uncomfortable. Are they? Hanna Anderson and Under the Nile look comfortable within a hidden elastic waistband. Anyone have experience with them, other than complaining about price?

I am assuming I am going to need to dye a pair pink. =) He wants "all the good colors."

I wonder if boys underpants are (or need to be) structurally different from girls, when we're talking about small children?

I don't know if Hanna Andersson sells boys' underwear, but I am definitely a fan. They were recommended to me here when my DD was having an underwear issue (hated every pair that we tried). We have six pair and DD really likes them, our underwear troubles are over. The elastic is indeed under the fabric, so nothing but pure cotton touches anywhere. The cotton is a quality that I'm not used to (we are, shall we say, a Walmart-attired family). Even my DH was kind of amazed at the fabric, even though he (as a man) doesn't normally notice or care about such things.

So, if they sell boys' - totally, go for it. If they don't sell boys' - I'd still try a pair of their girls' and see how it goes!

As for pink, I agree, I think your choices are either girls' underwear or dyeing. I doubt you'll find any pink boys' underwear off the shelf. The HA girls' underwear comes in a nice variety of colors and patterns, and of course pink is among them. They also sold white, so if there are boys' underwear, I'm sure you can get them in white and dye them nicely.

what about american apparel? also h&m has kids undies, and they sell "boy short" undies in pink purple and my kids "trade" undies all the time (ds isn't even close to being potty trained the boxer briefs are just too cute not to buy!)

Hanna Anderson are great. My son will wear others but says those are especially soft and comfortable.

Great. We'll try the HA and see how they go. He isn't very coordinated and I thought he might like the "pocket" for quick pees so he doesn't have to bother with his pants as much.

Honestly my son has never used the "pocket" on boys underpants. The way most of them are crossed over I think they would be more problematic to use than just pulling the underwear down a little. I have gotten ds1 Hanes underwear recently that actually has the elastic covered. I never saw them like that before so I'm not sure if they have them in smaller sizes, although his are 6's so they may work for you. But they are his go to underwear now.

No man (or boy) that I know uses that feature of men's underwear. They just pull them down half way and pull their penis out over the top. I don't think my guys are that unusual. So,  I would think the girls ones from HA would work if you want pink, or plain white if he's not sure.

DS and I both love underwear from Crazy8. They're so soft and comfortable, and hold up really well. Plus, they come in fun prints that he likes. They're pretty inexpensive too.

We buy hanes boxer briefs. They have a comfort waist band. It's what my husband prefers, too.  As for pink, you'll probably have to dye them, although I do have some bright blues that I'd call "good" colors.

My picky ds was happy with Hanes boxer briefs, too.  I'm pretty sure he started wearing size XS at 2 1/2  (he was 50% height and weight at that age).  Or was there a size XXS?  There was something small enough...

http://hyenacart.com/clubthread/st/749/85524/Snowman-boxer-briefs-size-2-3    These are made by a WAHM and I'm sure she could make you pink ones. A search at HC shows up several dozen 'boxers' or boys underpants that look really comfy :)

I think girl's panties are the way to go.  I agree with the pp who thinks that most (almost all?) men and boys don't actually use the little opening in guy's briefs to pee out of, they just pull them down a bit.  Also I've noticed that all my dd's panties have thinner/less bulky elastic at the top and generally seem somehow softer and more comfortable than ds's "boy undies".  We've bought lots of different brands.  She prefers the ones from H&M.

I buy girls, because he is too tiny for the smallest store bought ones for boys.

And I also make them!  I couldnt find purple and he wanted "purple with a robot", so thats what he got  (I take custom orders as well if you are interested)

My son went from the Imse Vimse training pants to HA and has always loved his undies.  He mostly wears the boxer/briefs but also has briefs.  They come in so many colors and patterns I'm sure you will find something your son likes.  Today my son wore bright orange undies with an orange and red striped undershirt.

They go on sale often at the outlet - sometimes as low as $3/pair.  If you don't have an outlet near you, you can call the outlet and they will ship to you.

My daughter also wears HA and she has tons of sensory issues.  We've tried other brands but the HA is the least likely to bother her.

Funny, my DH was laughing the other day when DS (3yo) was wearing a pair of pink HA undies. They're actually trainer undies (lightly padded) from a 3 pack I found at the outlets a year or two ago. The colors in the pack were pastels - yellow, blue, and pink. You might find similar assortments on eBay (several eBay sellers buy from the outlets and resell at higher prices) or, perhaps, still in the HA catalog.

They are definitely our favorite undies for our boys. Oh, and mine never use the boy flap part of undies, either. I don't suppose anyone's shown them how to, but they do just fine with the arrangement described by a PP.

FWIW, we have not liked OshKosh and Carters undies. They just don't fit well at all. Our boys are pretty much only in Hannas and Gymboree, with Hannas being softer, long-lasting, and organic cotton. Gymboree has lots of cute prints, can be had for really cheap on clearance sales, last fairly well, and are adorable on teeny bums! The waistbands on Gymbo are better than some brands for softness, but still not as soft as the hidden elastic on Hannas.

Eh, boys have a little more out front that can make it uncomfortable for some of them to wear female undergarments.

OP, I think the best (and possibly cheapest) thing to try first is buy white undies and toss them in the wash with a bright read shirt or something like that with no product to protect the whites.

yes,

My children (B/G) are both six and often wear each others clothing - not usually each others underwear but lately my daughter sometimes wears boys underwear.  As I mentioned in a PP we buy HA undies.  My daughter is comfortable In my son's boxer/briefs, but my son tried on her underwear and said it was very uncomfortable.

Musician Dad has a good point. The trainers I mentioned above are definitely roomy enough for a boy, though I do think they'd be uncomfy in standard girls' undies.

does he need special undies or could you jjust ry a package of hanes ect and maybe dye them.. I simpily ask cause my DD due to her sensory issues can NOT handle the common store stuff we get the Hana Anderson stuff but its pricy and its not easy to replace at all and honestly we go through them pretty fast. IF you dont have to special buy I honestly would not.
