TTC 1st LO @ 39

Is there anyone out there trying to concieve their 1st who is in their late 30's? My DH and I just started TTC. From what I've read, it doesn't look good for a woman of my age TTC. I was hoping to conceive naturally. What do you think my chances are? How long should I TTC naturally befoe seeking medical assistance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I started trying at 36, had two miscarriages at 39. It is not unheard of to get pregnant naturally at our ages. (I'm 41 now, and still trying.)

For medical assistance doctors say 6 months of trying for women over 35.

Thanks Stevi. I feel so alone. ALL my friends have LO's, most have multiple LO's. I'm worried I waited too late and blew my chances. Was in a bad marriage & having LO's at that time didn't make sense. I divorced and am now married to my DH. I really hope to conceive before I turn 40. But from what I've been reading, I don't think it's going to be easy.

You won't know until you try! The best advice I can give you right now is to BD every other day from AF's fade to AF's beginning. If I weren't using donors, that's what I would be doing. I wish you the best! Not many of us start out later, I have felt sorta on my own with all of these 2nd and 3rd timers...

Iamsmurphy I got pregnant almost immediately a few months before my 39th birthday. I thought it would take 6 months and instead I was pregnant before I knew it. As the op said you won't know until you try. Just clean up your diet and see what happens. When I was pregnant my OB told me that 60% of their pts were my age. Getting pregnant for a second after 40 has been the challenge for me. So give it a try and good luck.

I got pregnant on my 2nd try at age 37 and half. I am trying for our 2nd now at age 40.5 and we just started TTC. My advice to you is to go to fertilityfriend.com and start charting. You will feel empowered knowing exactly when you are ovulating. I am nursing and don't have my PPAF yet but thanks to charting I know when I ovulated this month.

I got pregnant my 2nd and 3rd tries (unfortunately both ended in m/c) and then got pregnant 4 months later with my DD who is now 1! We're planning for #2 this year. I was 38 when I conceived and 39 when I gave birth...40 now!

I got pregnant with my first at 40 and gave birth one month after turning 41.  Just off the top of my head, I can think of 5 women close to me who had babies in their late 30's/early 40's and a dozen other friends of friends.  There's a lot of us out there.  I highly recommend The Infertility Cure (terrible title, great book) by Dr. Randine Lewis.  I sought medical advice after 3 months of well timed sex just because I had a feeling that there was something wrong.  It turned out that my DH had pretty serious motility issues, so we went directly to IVF.  I conceived naturally while waiting to start IVF #3.

Good luck!

Funny, just said this on the 'over 40' forum.

I got pregnant on my 2nd try at age 37. Pregnant on my first try at age 40.

Yes, another endorsement of The Infertility Cure. And, of course, TCOYF, although I assume you're already hip to that.

I have 2 miscarriages at 35 and 36, then conceived DS at 36 and delivered him at 37. I used acupuncture and Chinese herbs to get my cycles in shape during that time.

We're sort of trying for #2 at 40. If I feel the need to "get serious" in the next year or so, I'll turn to acupuncture again. (I would do it right away if I were living near my old acupuncturist.)

I'll chime in because I'm the oldest of the bunch. ;) We conceived the 1st cycle at age 41ish, but that was a chemical pregnancy. We then conceived our DS the next cycle. I gave birth at age 42ish. Here I sit at age 43ish TTC #2. We've been trying since I got my first PPAF at 13+ months - so 3 cycles in total - hoping this is the one for us.

All conceptions were totally natural.

So, yes, it's possible.  :)
