"6 yr" molars

DD has been saying for weeks that her mouth hurt, esp when she was laying down and we couldn't figure out what was going on--Dr. looked in her mouth, we did, nothing visible. She became more and more distressed about it yesterday so we got the flashlight in there again and, clear as day, are 2 molars on the back,  but still really under the skin.  She's only 3.5 so we were not prepared for this.  She's miserable! Sleeping is a disaster. I've given her homeopathic stuff whenever she wants it and ibuprofin at night but she's still in pain.  When she was teething as a baby it would be one day of misery and then the teeth would be through and she'd be fine.  Seems like this has been building a while and is not moving quickly.  How long did it take for your kids' ones to come through once they were becoming bothersome?  And any other ideas for how to help her at night?  We're ok with daytime strategies but the nights are really bumming us all out.

Have you taken her to a dentist? Perhaps there's a problem with how they're coming in? I dont' even know when my ds' started coming in because he never complained about them- the dental hygienist noticed the bottom ones at a routine cleaning and the top ones came in shortly after. He was definitely 5 though, and I dont' think it took all that long for all 4 to come in- maybe 6 wks? But no pain or discomfort at all, ever.

My DD started complaining of pain where her 6 yr molars will be last summer, just after she turned 4 - they are there, you can see them.. she is big for her age and an 'early' teether.. but they still haven't come in.. they stopped bothering her after a couple months..it was a LONG couple of months of picky eating and constant complaining about them hurting, she even lost 4lbs in a few weeks becuase she refused to eat/chew . (she would spit food back out without chewing it)  i figure they were just getting in position and they will come in later.. my DS has been getting his 2 year molars for about 8 months.. 3 down, one to go..  molars are/can be soooooo slllooowww ..  but a dentist will be able to tell you if that is whats giong on .. i probably should have taken my DD but i have an issue with dentists..

Ugh--I feared that this might be a while...  We were just at the dentist a few months ago and did xrays and everything, so this was a surprise--there was no indication that this was on the horizon. She was an early teether but I just worry that this is going to be something that is going to bug her for a while since they are coming in so slowly.

My DD's were achy for a long time coming in.  I have been pleased as can be with using cell salts to make them stop hurting.  There's a long thread in Health & Healing on cell salts, I'm giving DD bioplasma and calc phos and wow, just love the stuff.  Also--some of those front teeth, once they fell out and the new were coming in, those hurt DD as well, just a generalized achiness, and it's gone with the cell salts.

I was pretty bummed when I realized that teething pain wasn't done once the first set of teeth came in.

Cool--Thanks for the info.  I had never heard of this!

My 5-year-old started complaining of tooth pain several months before his came in.  He never had any trouble with teething as a baby, but complained that these hurt and actually asked me to make him a dentist appointment (I was afraid he had a cavity).  We couldn't see anything, but the dentist did x-rays and could see them right under his gums.  It was still several months before they broke through, though.
