Ok, I am 24 weeks and have had a couple of US - one because they couldn't detect a heartbeat early on, the second was at 20 weeks. The placenta is in front so this masks some of the feeling and probably why they had trouble in the beginning hearing anything. The thing is, I am HUGE already. I mean really big. I look nearly term. I am 5'6" and normally weigh around 135-140 and I have a short torso and small breasts so it might be just because of the way I am shaped, but come on, I weighed 164 at my 20 wk weigh in. Every single person I know has commented how big I am. My 3 year old keeps telling me there is a boy AND girl in there. And since I am 40, and have already had a set of twins, I am sort of worried now there might be an extra kid in there. I feel a LOT of movement - down very low and also up close to my ribs already - the baby couldn't be that long already right? How common is it to have a US tech "miss" a baby?

Since you've had a "couple of u/s", I'd say chances are there is only one baby in there. It was REALLY obvious during all of my u/s that there were twins in there, from 8wks on.
All the stories of "missed twins" I've ever heard are usually moms with no u/s while pregnant, a very early u/s before the second twins was visible and/or old u/s machines with poor imaging.
Good luck and Grats on your pregnancy!

FWIW, I think having the anterior placenta makes you look bigger. I have a big anterior placenta and I look really round. And Yea the only place I feel movement is up high and down low and way out on the sides. Everywhere there is placenta I can't feel movement. I'd say with 2 u/s your chances of a surprise twin are very low. I have had 3 u/s so far and there is def just 1 in there as well.

I agree with the last u/s being at 20w they couldnt have missed a second baby in there. Not without someone really not doing their job.
