newborn and cosleeping contemplations...

So ds was born 9 days ago...he sleeps in bed with us, which is perfectly wonderful and exactly what we expected. We do have a cosleeper attached to the bed...which I fear is just going to become a very expensive bedrail and storage area. However, I am wanting to figure out someway to put him in there in the morning so I can get up, have a shower, brush my teeth and help dd get ready for school. Next week, ds, dd and I will all have to get ready to leave the house by 8am to take dd to school and I'm just not sure how to make it all work.

Ds sleeps in the am pretty well thus far, he has a big long snooze from about 5:30-8am everyday since birth, so I'm assuming this is some sort of pattern. The thing is, as soon as I get out of the bed, he's up too. I have tried lulling him back to sleep in the cosleeper with no avail. Actually anytime I lay him in there at all, he instantly wakes up.

Any suggestions as to how to get a baby to sleep in a cosleeper...we even have a sheepskin in there as I was concerned about the comfort of the mattress...

you can't sneak away and leave him on the bed? If you really want him in the co-sleeper you will have to make it a habit, and put him there regularly. All I can think of is when he wakes to nurse early am lay him in there and nurse him. is it attached to the bed?

DS is 5.5 months old and has spent exactly 1 hour sleeping in his cosleeper :)  I could never transfer him there either!

Two thoughts:

1) Is he swaddled?  You might have better luck moving him if he is swaddled.

2) Sell the cosleeper and get one of these.  I was able to move DS into one of these with relative ease, and it sits just about at bed height.  I think the incline and the feeling of being a little enclosed helped.  Also, if he wakes up a little you can rock it and get a little head jiggle going and I bet he'll go right back to sleep.

Good luck and congrats on your new little one!!!
