I don't mind the night nursing...

I really don't.  I know that ds3 is still very young (3.5 months) and needs to eat at night.  I'm totally cool with that.

But he is using nursing to put himself back to sleep when he wakes up and ISN'T hungry, and I cannot do that.  I did that with my ds2 and we had such terrible issues at night that I walked around like a zombie until I finally snapped and weaned him.

We are currently co-sleeping but I'm not attached to it in any way.  I do it b/c, up to this point, it has gotten me more sleep.  I'm going back to work next week, like a real, professional job (for the first time in 3 years!) and I really can't let myself get into zombie mode again.

During the day, you can pretty much set a clock by when ds3 nurses: every 3 hours.  But he's up more often at night.  For example, last night he went to bed around 9 and woke at 11 to eat, then a time or two and just went back to sleep w/o eating, then really ate again at like 3, was up another time, then ate again at about 5 and was up for the day at 7.  I don't know if dh is waking him up snoring or rolling over (our bed is loud) or if I woke him up or if he just woke up by himself.  The above schedule would be totally doable if I didn't have all that waking up in between feedings.

So how does one go about eliminating those extra wakings?  I was unsuccessful at doing so with ds2, so I thought I'd reach out for advice this time!

Oh, and he does not have to stay latched on to sleep.  He pops himself off quite happily when he's drifted off.

3.5 months is prime time for a sleep regression... prior to that age, my DS was eating once or twice a night and then we hit the sleep regression and he was up 4-6 times every night.  I'd put even money on that is why your LO is waking up so much.  And unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it... just let it run it's course.  They just wake up a lot while they are working through the cognitive development stuff.
