31wks pregnant, possible infection -- dentist?

I am also still nursing our 2.6 year old.  Our baby in utero just developed premature arterial contractions (PAC's) over the past two weeks after having had a steady, strong heartbeat for all of the pregnancy.  Her heartbeat is now very irregular, with no pattern to its irregularity...

I read that infections could be an underlying cause in PAC's and I'm concerned that I have a tooth infection.  My tooth has chipped away over the past 4 months or so, and it has been tender for the past couple or months or so.

I am just concerned about what dentists will do if I do in fact have an infection...

Anyone have experience with gum/tooth infection during pregnancy?

What are the questions I need to be asking the dentist?

The dentist I will see uses mercury-free practices in her office...

Thank you very much, mamas!

Get thee to a dentist! I can only guess as to what they will do, but go, sooner then later. The dentists ive seen while pg were very good and careful with not doing anything unneccesary, that said I've had a wisdom tooth pulled while pg and it was fine, they did use lidocaine locally which both my dentist and my md said is safe.

well for starters they can give you an antibiotic. It wont cure your infection forever but can buy you some time if you dont want to have dental work done (or even if you do) - I  didnt want to but have 2 dental problems when pregnant (2007) and was on antibiotics twice for dental related issues. (My son is 3 now and no problems) - amoxicillin was the one they gave me.
