Sooooo, thought I had this all figured out, but apparently not :)
Â
Long story short: Tested + for GBS in urine, now negative. I know all about high colonization anyway, yadayadayada, I have weighed the risks on both sides and have decided, based on all the research/studies I've read (Yes, I actually got the paper studies and read them) that a hibiclens wash along with cultures as soon as the babies are born is the way that I'm going to go.
Â
Well I did get my OB to sign off on my birth plan which was great! But he was apparently concerned about me declining ABX, so he went and talked to the hospital neonatologists. Well that started a huge commotion. Both my OB and the Neonatologist at the hospital called my perinatologist to see if he could talk me into it (he doesn't even want to get involved in the mess), and apparently said something like the hospital might refuse to treat me if I decline the ABX (which I'm pretty sure is illegal, but not 100%)
Â
I really want to U/C, but that doesn't always work out, (if I end up needing a section this will all be moot anyway). My OB called me yesterday and said he wanted to schedule a meeting with him and I and the neonatologists to "talk". It will be gang up on mom day but that's ok, because I'm bringing my damn studies with me :) Anyway, thoughts on this??

I know some are totally gung ho about ABX, but I've made my decision about it, and I'm just not willing to risk my children by exposing them to Penicillin which could have the exact same result as contracting GBS, and can cause the GBS strain to become resistant to antibiotics, when it otherwise would have been able to be treated if no IV penicillin had been given- but I know you guys know all this already. So the "do what they say" option is out for me...

Thanks for the help ladies!
