SPD sleeping in a hammock?

Thread Starter

My 19 month old has just started OT for some swallowing issues related to SPD.  We also have major sleep issues.  He gets around 7-8 hours in a 24 hour period.  We are using a weighted blanket now, but it hasn't really helped.

I think I am on to something, though.  He always falls asleep in the car, but as soon as the car stops, he wakes up. We have been to a local park recently that has one of those huge "baby" swings (big enough for an adult).  It is like a bucket seat with a roller coaster harness.  Within 2 minutes of getting in that swing and being pushed, he has fallen asleep.

He is so tired, but seems to require constant movement, even while he sleeps.  Is there any such thing as a sleep swing?  I see those Amby-type things, but they don't swing as much as they hang and the weight limit is around 30 pounds.  I don't want to spend that kind of money on something that he can only use for a short while.

Any suggestions?

I know that a number of people with SPD use hammocks for sleeping but I don't know whether that is appropriate for a 19 month old baby.  Have you looked into a sleep study?

Here are some though none are intended for sleeping. You may have better luck finding something that will vibrate his bed like this

Not sure of the length, but the new Amby Nature's Nests seem to be rated up to 20 kg (44 pounds).  I don't know much about them for older babies/toddlers, though...
