I recieved some gifted water kefir grains in the mail a couple days ago (about 2TB. worth).  They are now in a glass mason jar of water, with added organic sugar.  Questions for you all:

 

-I totally forgot to filter the water! Doh! Did I ruin them?

 

-Do I need to change the water and add fresh sugar every few days?  If yes, how do I do this, and how often?

 

-Will they multiply/grow on their own, just hanging out in the fridge? or do they need to be used in a recipe in order for that to happen?  Can they just sit in their sugar water and multiply for awhile (how long is safe?)

 

 

What else do I need to know?  I mainly requested them because I want to try some fizzy fruit drinks.
