Baby loves solids - but his gut does not ...

So DS is 6 mo and has been crazy about solids for about 2 mo now - reaching for our food, tongue thrust, etc. When I feed him with a spoon he's crazy for it - reaching for it, eating it pretty chunky with no problems, etc.

At 6mo ...Started him on oatmeal w/ breastmilk b/c that's what worked great for DD. But it seems to make him CRAZY gassy - like up for a few hours at night, arching his back, stiff, etc. Tried banana (mushy) and green been puree and it seems to be the same thing. Of course, it could be teething or anything else that keeps babies up at night but my hunch is it's the food.

Should I wait a while to give his digestive system a little more time to develop? Does his digestive system just need to "get used" to food - whether we do it now or in 3 months? I wouldn't mind holding off with food - except that he seems to really really want it when it's in front of him.

Thoughts?

We did better on "Happy Bellies oatmeal". It has probiotics which help digestion. It's organic. It's recommended by Dr. Sears.
