Breastfeeding USA

Hi, has anyone heard about www.breastfeedingusa.org? I saw a link to the site in my email today and thought I'd pass it along. It looks like a really cool breastfeeding organization that I'd not heard of before. I love to see mothers helping mothers, and this looks like an additional organization in the US to help support breastfeeding. How exciting!

Breastfeeding USA, Inc. provides evidence-based information and support, and promotes breastfeeding as the biological and cultural norm. We accomplish this through a network of accredited breastfeeding counselors and comprehensive resources for the benefit of mothers and babies, families, and communities.

I love the little breastfeeding info blurbs at the bottom of the page:

A baby uses 22 different muscles to breastfeed.

Breastmilk provides all the water your baby needs, even in hot and dry climates.

"If 90% of US families could comply with medical recommendations to breastfeed exclusively for 6 months, the United States would save $13 billion per year and prevent an excess 911 deaths, nearly all of which would be in infants."

Very cool!

I'm excited about Breastfeeding USA too!  It's a brand new organization launched December 2010. It will include mother-to-mother volunteer counselors who are experienced breastfeeding mothers with evidence-based training. Continuing education will be required.

I expect that the website will become a wealth of information. Volunteers are needed and welcome to participate!
