My oldest son (who hates to wear socks b/c his feet "get too hot") currently has peeling skin on the soles of his feet - not really between the toes like athletes foot, but rather on the sole - including the arch. There is no redness or rashy looking skin. His sole looks like what a peeling sunburn looks like. But, considering we are in middle of winter, I know it is not a sunburn :) Oh, and he will only wear socks/shoes when we are going somewhere; at home, I cannot keep socks (or slippers) on him  -  his feet really do get that hot (for that matter HE gets hot - very warm blooded little boy!).

Overall, I would not be worried...except that he likes to pick (his nose, his skin, any scabs, etc) and I worry that he'll pick at the peeling skin until it does actually become sore.

Anyone have any idea of a possible cause (other than athlete's foot)?

For what it's worth...I did take my boys to the Y indoor pool about 2-3 wks ago and (this time of yr) ds1 gets a bath 1-2 times per week in which he'll sit in the tub for an hour (more if I'd let him!!). Is it possible for the skin, when it gets all wrinkly from water, to then peel later???
