Not much of a story to tell...but just thought I'd throw out there that I had a great birth in a hospital with a regular OB. XH mentioned to them discretely that I wanted to try and do things naturally and they were all for it. Then afterwards they couldn't stop commenting on it. I don't think it's totally rare at the hospital, but when they see it, they're still impressed. :) So...you can still get a natural birth in a hospital. May not have been the coziest environment, but it wasn't traumatizing or anything and I was darn proud of myself! And the nurses were very gung ho about nursing and helped me get started with DS right away!
I'm hanging onto that memory as I find myself in the position of switching providers and tweaking our birth plans a bit. It can be done, and really the L&D staff and OBs didn't go into the field because of a love of performing c-sections. With research, discussions and a good support system, you can have a fulfilling natural birth in a mainstream setting. :) (One day I'd still love to be able to use a birthing center...but I don't have regrets at our planned hospital birth.)
Hopefully this isn't a thread hijak. I just know that sometimes not everything goes according to the perfect plan, and wanted to share that change can still have positive outcomes!
