Is anyone considering doing this?

I have read many people's thoughts on waiting until the cord stops pulsing to cut it, and I can understand why this is desirable.

But, as a scientist, I can see really great benefits to donating the cord and blood, particularly for researching many diseases. I am not talking about banking - or saving it for my child's future. I want to completely donate it to science. I think I have decided to do this and wondered if anyone else has any thoughts on it.

We have not thought about doing this and I don't even know if it is possible. The hospital, birth center or midwife would have to equipped to do the collection.

When my friend had her dd, the hospital she was at let them bank it in community bank (they paid nothing for it). She was at a hospital that was doing this through UCLA. It is available for anyone who may be a match... and of course to her own family as well.

I have always thought I'd wait until the cord stopped pulsing, but with both babies they had a really short cord and could barely get up to my belly. My first was rooting and trying to crawl up to my breast so we went ahead and cut the cord. He latched on and nursed less than two minutes after he was born! Never had any nipple soreness or breastfeeding problems. That was way more important than keeping the cord attached longer!

Does anyone know if you can do BOTH?

Can you give the blood to the baby until it stops pulsating and THEN collect the blood for banking. I have read at the mercola that he believes it is is possible!

I have also learned that if oxytocin is used during childbirth the WHO mandates the cord MUST be immediately cut to prevent harm to the baby during transfer....could THAT be one reason why they don't allow BOTH the baby to receive the blood AND cord banking...well, that and the fact they don't want to admit they have been WRONG all this time over immediate clamping!! LOL

Does anyone have any information on this? It would really be appreciated!
