What supplies do I need to buy? - Page 2

eating a piece of raw placenta is supposed to be good to stop bleeding.  It sounds gross, I know, but I ate two pieces of it after returning home from the hospital because my placenta was retained for so long, i was concerned about bleeding.  It really wasn't that bad.... in fact, I opted to eat it in my scrambled eggs (cooked this time) every day for the next week.

I dunno if I'm at that level of crunchiness yet lol. I mean, I am not opposed to the idea and it's certainly preferable to hemorrhaging, but when I think about it, my stomach involuntarily turns bigeyes.gif

Which hazel is a good soothing, cooling antiseptic that you can use on the peri area after giving birth if you need to.  It is, however, VERY important to buy some that does not have any alcohol in it!!!  Most of the bottles at Walgreens and what not have 14% alcohol so read the label carefully or you will be in a world of hurt!!

Last time, I sprayed it on some pads along with some steeped chamomile and froze them for a soother after the babe was born.  I did not have any tears or skid marks, though, so I only used one that night and then felt okay.  Fingers crossed that I will be so lucky this time around, too!!!  Oh - great for hemorrhoids, too.

Susun Weed says to use witch hazel tincture if hemorrhage starts before the placenta is out - 20 drops under the tongue.

Tumble Bumbles, I am vegetarian and was also not really attracted to the idea of consuming placenta (meat!). But I opted to swallow it with a glass of water in small pieces, and I never even tasted it. I took it as a preventative measure against excessive bleeding, though I am sure I would not have hemorrhaged. Then, I continued swallowed pieces until it was gone. I felt great! If you would like to try, but are too disgusted, you could think about encapsulating it. That is no good for PP hemorrhage, obviously, but you can use it afterward.

If you have already had a baby or more before, you might like to add motherwort tincture for afterpains too.

My DP made a smoothie with the placenta chunks.  Honestly I didn't even know he gave me a placenta smoothie until later!  Obviously I had already said I wanted to consume some though.  No bleeding:)

Thanks! Most tinctures can be bought commercially. If you know any herbalists or naturoptahs locally, you could also go that way. Or, you can make tinctures and infusions yourself with fresh or dried herbs depending on what is available, and what works. If you let me know what you are planning on using, perhaps I can look specific info up for you.

a friend is growing some shepard's purse and helping me make a tincture to have on hand...but would encapsulated placenta from a previous birth be good to have on hand for bleeding before the placenta is out this time? maybe not in the capsule, but if we opened the capsule and put it under the tongue?

I have "afterease" and was wondering when exactly after the birth should I be using it? It doesn't really say that on the bottle.
